Ronaldo and Man United have parted ways by mutual consent.
Cristiano Ronaldo sat down with notoriously reputed media presenter Piers Morgan for an interview in which he discussed Manchester United, his family, career, his teammates – both current and former, Sir Alex Ferguson and current manager Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United have started the process to terminate the player’s contract. Ronaldo’s exit from Old Trafford has been confirmed by the club. The club’s reasoning for termination would be breach of contract. The actual reason is that he has spoken of the unspeakable among Manchester United hierarchy – the Glazer family’s abhorrent ownership of the great football club.
Piers Morgan, who once published an article on Ronaldo in which he called the Portuguese a Spoilt Brat, appeared in completely different demeanor when talking to Cristiano. The two seem to have good rapport. On Ronaldo’s side this does not make sense. Why is he talking to Piers Morgan of all people, who everybody knows will do whatever it takes to put a bad name on Manchester United? Everybody knows Piers is a Man United hater. He called you a spoilt brat when you were knocking Arsenal out of competitions for fun. Now he’s your buddy? It doesn’t make sense.
Although Ronaldo chose the wrong person to reveal his truths, he spoke of the most important issue regarding Manchester United: its ownership. Ronaldo stated that the Glazer family do not care about the club. They are not doing it professionally. The main focus of the owners is the marketing side, instead of the footballing side. According to Cristiano the Glazer family are not professionals. He did this interview to say everything he has inside. Ronaldo did this interview knowing speaking against corrupt Glazers means he is done at United. Fans, shareholders must carry on his voice against the Glazers.
Let’s address the big elephant in the room.
Ronaldo is not happy because a player of his stature should not come off the bench to make a cameo at Old Trafford. This happened during United’s clash against Tottenham. United were 2-0 up. Ronaldo was furious. He had scored a hat-trick in the same fixture last season! Why is Erik ten Hag doing that? Ronaldo claims the manager is treating him unfairly intentionally as he does not have a long term future in his second tenure at the club.
Erik ten Hag had lost 2 opening games in his first ever season as manager of Manchester United. Ronaldo played in both of these games. Erik then dropped Ronaldo and Manchester United went on a 4 game winning run. The problem is Ronaldo believes he is a regular starter but Erik ten Hag clearly does not. Fans who watch United games know that Ronaldo is not a regular starter, given United’s record without him starting. (continued)
Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville are clearly not in Ronaldo’s Christmas card list. They will think very hard before needlessly criticizing their former team mate, as they should. Unlike Rio Ferdinand and Roy Keane, Neville and Rooney needed this lesson – you don’t backstab your former teammate through your media gigs.
Probably it’s better to be an outspoken king than a silent peasant. There are many Phil Joneses the likes of whom continue to be employed by Manchester United. It’s better to leave like Ronaldo than stay like Phil Jones. As Roy Keane put it, leopards don’t change their spots. The squad still has some leopards who doesn’t play for the badge. The body language on and off the pitch says it all.
CR7’s exit is probably best for both parties. If Cristiano has ever made our day brighter we should thank him for his services. He came back and tried, that’s all that matters. Let’s not forget, Cristiano Ronaldo is probably the main reason Glazers have nowhere to hide anymore.
Thank you, Cristiano.
Thanks for all the memories king 👑 Wishing for the ultimate #FIFAWorldCup2022 campaign for you and Portugal now! #MUFC #ManchesterUnited #Portugal @Cristiano pic.twitter.com/gAwmO3mz4R
