Manchester United vs Wolves – Preview, Match Report, Videos

January 3, 2022

Manchester United welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to Old Trafford to play their first match of 2022. A vital fixture for United to keep top 4 hopes alive.

MUFC vs Wolves Preview

Harry Maguire is set to miss the Wolves clash after picking up an injury, The Athletic reported. With Victor Lindelöf still in isolation for COVID, Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic are in contention to start.

Mike Dean assigned as match referee.

MUFC boss Ralf Rangnick sends clear message to his squad before Wolves clash – “There is no replacement for winning.”

The German named his first starting XI of 2022. Notably, Phil Jones starts, and Bruno Fernandes named a substitute. The attack is unchanged since last match which saw United best Burnley. Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo start up front with Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood providing support from the wings. United’s starting CMs are Nemanja Matic and Scott McTominay – who is in terrific form.

At the back, Raphaël Varane partners Phil Jones for the first time. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are the starting wing backs. United’s player of the month for December, David De Gea starts as GK.

MUFC vs Wolves – The Match

Jadon Sancho decided somehow not to pass Ronaldo. Just plain silly. United miss the chance to lead. David De Gea with two great saves. After 25 minutes Wolves had 4 shots on target and 9 attempts, their best start in a match in current EPL campaign. Teams really somehow find their best form against Man United – whose reaction to this mystery was unimpressive.

Phil Jones had an inspiring first half after so long away from Premier League football. United failed to create good chances going forward. Bruno Fernandes couldn’t ! Was rwaaq create opportunities that Jadon Sancho couldn’t generate in attack. It doesn’t take to be a football pundit to see that United players take too much time on the ball comparing to almost all opponents. Where is the intensity and slickness?

First half ends 0-0.

Match ended 1-0 to Wolves.

Total disappointment for United.
