MUFC 3 Burnley 1 – McTominay pulls off his best performance for United!

December 30, 2021

Manchester United welcomed Burnley expecting to finish 2021 with a positive result. Kick off at 20:15 GMT, December 30 2021. Jonathan Moss is the match referee.

United looking for redemption after Monday’s  unimpressive display against Newcastle.

Here’s United boss Ralf Rangnick talking about the squad, COVID situation, on Varane – Maguire partnership, Cavani possibly starting and his assessment of the team’s progress:

Ronaldo missed a glorious chance to score and a few minutes later Scott McTominay put United ahead with low shot from outside the box. United looked more energetic and lively comparing to last match against Newcastle United.

Sancho doubled the lead after 26 minutes. Great one two between Shaw and Sancho on the left flank and then Sancho snaked it in with a beautiful low placement shot. The shot was deflected by Burnley defender Ben Mee. Otherwise, it wouldn’t go in, apparently.

Ronaldo scored a third goal after McTominay’s powerful shot hit the bar and fell to him. Tap in. 3-0 up in 35 minutes.

Burnley Aaron Lennon scored a great solo goal to make it 3-1. Disappointing defending from Bailly and Maguire for the goal. David De Gea surely was fuming.

Second half United were a more reserved side. It was dull, to be honest, the second half. However, Ralf Rangnick would be happy with the three points.

Scott McTominay arguably with his best performance in United shirt.

He was massive. Clearly player of the match. Comparing to his performance, the rest of the team played average.

Eric Bailly bar the mistake leading to goal was superb as well. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw both were pretty good as well. I think Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani underperformed. And Maguire, just makes people everyone nervous when he’s on the ball. He needs to improve his game speed and sharpness.

McTominay: “Body language is one thing and the manager has come in and said he wants to cut that out, so that is final. We have taken it on board.”

Overall, a much better performance than the previous game. However, to make it a good season the team needs to play better.
