United played against West Ham at Old Trafford in matchday 12 of EPL 2022-23 season. It was a tight contest, with United coming out as the victors in narrow 1-0 score. David de Gea put on a masterclass to ensure United’s rejuvenated defense kept another clean sheet.
Bass god Steve Harris must be disappointed to see his beloved hammers succumb to another defeat against the Red Devils by narrow margin.
United controlled the game in first half. There were a number of very good chances. Finishing is a concern. Finally a quick 1-2 between Fernandes and Eriksen from Dalot throw in near West Ham penalty area just created enough space for Eriksen to deliver a beautiful cross towards Rashford in far post. Rashford did get his thumping header on target and West Ham goalkeeper had no way to save that.
David de Gea was not involved much in the first half. In the second half West Ham were in control and created quite a number of good chances to cause an upset. But DDG pulled off a few world class saves. First from disgraced cat beater Zouma‘s header and then in the dying seconds he blocked a ferocious long shot from Declan Rice.
A defense we can trust.
At the final whistle teammates rushed to David de Gea to applaud our long serving United numero uno. Although David will pick up the plaudits for his big performance, the whole team deserves credit to hold on to the slender lead.
Harry Maguire, back from a long break did well in his return. Most notably a vital block in the dying seconds. Diogo Dalot has been a completely different player and probably most improved player under Erik ten Hag. Luke Shaw was faultless as well, finding his best form just before the world cup.
Last but not the least, Lisandro Martinez is central to a rejuvenated defense line. He has won the hearts of all United fans. We are lucky to have such a tremendous defender at United.
United are in talks with David de Gea to renew his contract. The terms are reported to be much smaller than his existing contract. United are also looking at potential GK signings in next summer. Most notably Diego Costa of FC Porto is someone United appreciates a lot.
🗣️ “I’m really happy with David [Dea Gea], he’s a great goalkeeper. He’s only 31, he’s fit and he can progress even more.”

I hope David stays at United for years to come.
Spanish football team coach Luis Enrique has made a fool out of himself for not selecting de Gea for Spain’s 55 member squad for the world cup. Let’s who he thinks is better during the world cup.
