Italy defeats England in EURO 2020 final

It’s going ROME! Italy were deserved winners vs England in the EURO 2020 final. Manchester United players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw all contributed to an unforgettable day of football.

England vs Italy match analysis

Italy had won 34 games consecutively before taking the pitch for the final. England had home support and an array of talented individuals capable of upsetting Italy.

Luke Shaw struck very early to put England ahead. But since that goal England did what they always have done – sit back and try not to concede. And like most times they did eventually concede. Bonucci leveled the score in the second half.

The match went to penalties. Here’s the diabolical part comes in – Rashford and Sancho were subbed on just before extra time ended. Their task is to take two penalties in the shootout. Neither of them had any involvement in that game and very minimal involvement throughout the tournament.

Raheem Sterling, who was trusted by Gareth Southgate as a forward and starter in all of England games, was not in the list of penalty takers. It doesn’t make any sense to leave out a player from penalties who is trusted as a goalscorer in the team selection.

Bukayo Saka, an inexperienced player was prioritized over both Rashford and Sancho to play in extra time. Saka, 19 year old, was also sent to take England’s final penalty. Talk about stupid game management.

Italy won 3-2 on penalties. Rashford, Sancho both missed. So much contrasting emotions. England players looked devastated as they walked to get their runners up medals.

It’s so unfair for Rashford and Sancho. They were important parts of a flawed gameplan.

Roberto Mancini has shown Gareth Southgate a lesson in game management.

It’s going to Rome, Italy.

Gareth Southgate and his team and the culture both contributed to England’s demise. England’s conservative approach to win games is plainly negative football. A nation which is proud to call England home of football should try to win games by playing beautiful football. And for the record, football was invented in China!

You don’t win a match against a football giant like Italy by popularizing arrogant slogans. It’s Coming Home doesn’t work. It’s better to ride on abilities rather than hype. England always finds a way to dramatize their capabilities. On the pitch, that’s always an advantage for opponents.

Italians never seem to fail to attract interest either, but in a different way comparing to England. It’s the national anthem, it’s Chiellini’s too good attitude and Italian smile. Nobody treated their opponents as good as Georgio Chiellini!

What’s next for United?

Rashford and Sancho are in good hands. Ole will make sure Euro failure motivate them to be even better players. United players have obtained valuable experience playing in UEFA EURO 2020.
