Raphaël Varane
Raphaël Varane is probably the most decorated center back in today’s game. The world Cup winning French defender has won four Champions League titles with Real Madrid. It’s believed that Varane is currently looking for a new challenge at this stage in his career.
Without any doubt, his addition to the United squad will massively improve the defensive backline. At Real Madrid he played as defensive cover for his partner and more attack minded Sergio Ramos. At United Varane can play a similar role beside Harry Maguire – a ball playing defender who also likes to go forward during attacks.
Raphaël Varane is reportedly available for a fee of around 40 to 50 million Euros. For a world class CB at the age of 29, it’s a bargain for United. No need to worry about center defense pairing for the next 4 years at least if the move materializes.
A back 4 consisting of Raphaël Varane, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will certainly transform United as THE top defensive side, not just in the Premier League, in whole Europe.
Wilfred Ndidi
Sure, Eduardo Camavinga is exciting. He’s probably the top talent to fill a defensive midfield role at Manchester United. However, if United want quick results they should look no further than Leicester city’s Wilfred Ndidi.
Another name for the much coveted CDM role that’s frequently brought up is Declan Rice. Both Rice and Ndidi are very good candidates but Ndidi is surely one step ahead of Rice. Ndidi is faster, more aggressive and has better composure when in possession. United however, are more likely to move for Rice. There’s possibility of a swap deal for Rice with Lingard going the other way to West Ham.
Without a world class, Premier League proven defensive midfielder, United will always be vulnerable to opponents’ high press just outside United box. Currently this hole in defensive midfield area is commonly targeted by opponent teams. It’s an area that United desperately needs to improve. Wilfred Ndidi is the perfect CDM out there to solve this problem.
Erling Haaland
Haaland is a no-brainer really when it comes to transforming a team’s attack today. All the biggest clubs in Europe want his signature, but few can afford the transfer fee. The big Norwegian goal machine is probably the most sought after player in the world.
Haaland will probably cost more than 120 million pounds. There are questions whether he wants to join United or not. It’s reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjær, his former coach at Molde and United’s Football Director John Murtough had planned to make a move for Haaland in the summer 2021 transfer window. However, the pursuit has been put on hold after Edinson Cavani signed one year comtract extension at United.
If Erling Haaland decides to stay at Borussia Dortmund for 2021-2022 season, Manchester United will surely move for Haaland in summer 2022 transfer window. Other big clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and PSG will also complete for his signature. The biggest competitor is perhaps Manchester City. Haaland’s father once played for City and the club is looking for a top striker. On the other hand, City are also favorites to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur and United are also interested in Kane. It remains to be seen where Haaland ends up eventually. It’s possible Kane and Haaland will go to Manchester clubs.
