Safe to say it has been an eventful year for Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani. After a 7 month spell away from top-level football, our no. 7 joined United on the deadline day of the summer 2020 EPL transfer window.
Perhaps it was tougher to settle down in Manchester than Cavani and his family had initially thought, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A few months after the season started, rumours circulated of his wish to leave Manchester United at the end of the 2020-2021 season.
Manchester weather and cavani’s inability to speak in English were not catalysts behind these rumors. It was clear at some point Cavani indeed wanted to leave at the end of the season. And evidently the main reason behind it was for everyone to see – his feud with English Football Association for the “Negrito” comment. Cavani was right to feel that he was treated unfairly by the FA, and as a matter of fact, he was.
It certainly was not the beginning of his Manchester United Journey that Edinson had hoped for. Due to his age it’s also challenging for him to be match fit for a considerable amount of time, which made matters worse. A top class striker being subjected to media ridicule and struggling with injuries – big problem.
There is no doubt, however, Cavani did overcome the difficult beginning, as he started to find his form. He went on to score some very important goals for Manchester United in the league, notably against Southampton, which was a turning point for him, and also in the EFL Cup and the Europa League.
Our no. 7 showed great perseverance during the second half of the season. Contrary to previous speculations Cavani signed a contract extension with Manchester United for one more year, which he celebrated with a spectacular chip against Fulham in front of Old Trafford.
It seems now Cavani is much happier at United and genuinely enjoying his football. Like all top class players he wants to prove that he can contribute significantly to the team. United fans worldwide wanted him to stay and he listened. Fans are definitely looking forward to seeing more of him next season.
Football aside, things are getting much more exciting for Edinson as he welcomed his fourth child to his family.
In the photo, newly-born Silvestre is held by Jocelyn in the hospital bed. Silvestre is Edinson’s fourth. He has a daughter, India, born on May 17, 2019. Edinson also has two more sons, Bautista and Lucas.
Edinson Cavani has been in a relationship Jocelyn Burgardt, who is a professional dancer. They began dating in 2015 and have been together ever since. The couple met when Jocelyn was performing at the parade of Bella Unión.
His first son, Bautista Cavani and his second son Lucas Cavani were born in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Maria Soledad, Cavani’s former wife is their mother.
We hope that the newest joy in the Edi’s personal life reflects on the pitch when the new season begins. The biggest challenge for Cavani is to stay fit. Everyone who follows football knows if he stays fit he’s definitely going to score goals because he’s El Matador!
