Manchester United need to find a goal machine, and to replace arguably the greatest goal scorer ever is a daunting task. Here are some realistic targets involving in this inevitable transfer saga.
João Félix
No. Good player but does not seem like the kind of personality Man United want. Probably it’s the price tag which keeps Felix on the edge. He never did his mammoth transfer fee any justice after moving to Atletico Madrid from Benfica. Reports have recently circulated that Félix has started a feud with club coach Diego Simone.
Nonetheless, Félix is considered a top attacker. He will score goals in the PL. Still, United should look elsewhere to solve their goalscoring problem. Félix won’t mix well with the lads. United will have to pay a premium for his signature as well. We’re talking transfer fee in excess of 100 million euros. Not worth it!
Félix to Manchester United Confidence Rating: 4/10.

Victor Osimhen
Manchester United were offered the chance to sign Napoli ace Osimhen towards the end of last summer window, but Erik ten Hag decided to prioritize Antony deal. (Fabrizio Romano, September 29, 2022)
Will Osimhen score 20 goals per season? He has the ability to do so. The Nigerian is enjoying great form for Napoli this season, who look set to be crowned Italian champions. However, Osimhen does not have a good fitness record. It might be a enjoyable ride in the Serie A for an out and out target man like Osimhen but premier league is different story altogether. He has to fit in Erik ten Hag system as well. Overall, the move seems more of a side story to all the Ronaldo media noise.
Another problem with this potential transfer is asking fee. Osimhen is valued at approximately €70.00m. If United bid, expect Napoli’s asking price skyrocket to 100 million euros.
Osimhen to Manchester United Confidence Rating: 6/10.

Cody Gakpo
We previously featured Gakpo, who still three months into 2022-2023 season looks like the most suitable replacement of Cristiano. He is deployed as a left sided, right footed forward at PSV but he can easily play center forward. With the addition of Gakpo, Manchester United will have 6 very good attackers at their disposal – beside Rashford, Antony, Sancho, Martial and Garnacho. Are any of these out and out target man? Probably not. Neither was anyone the last time United clinched UCL and PL double.
Gakpo is leading the European GA chart at the moment – suppressing the likes of Erling Haaland, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe. He is waiting to burst into scene at football’s biggest stage. Erik ten Hag’s United seems the most suitable for the player.
The Dutch prodigy has openly stated that a deal was almost completed in the summer, but to his disappointment, it didn’t materialize in the end. It’s United who pulled off at the last moment. It is evident that lack of funds from the Glazers pushed the deal out of the last transfer window. Let’s hope United get this deal over the line during next transfer window.
Gakpo to Manchester United Confidence Rating: 9/10
