Alejandro Garnacho is the man of the moment, and indeed the man of match for his stellar full debut performance for Manchester United FC against Europa League opponents Sheriff FC.
Old Trafford saw United get the job done comfortably. Final score 3-0 against the Moldovan side. Expected tactics. United found it hard to make a breakthrough despite dominanating possession. This was well truly “Parking the bus”, a tactic followed by many opponents visiting Old Trafford.
During the first half, often frustrating but never when Garnacho got the ball. He was a real menace, a genuine threat to the opponents. Direct, taking his chances 1v1. Sancho has got something to learn here. You have to believe you can best wing backs.
United finally scored in the first half just couple of minutes before half time whistle. Thanks for Diogo Dalot‘s header from corner. Can’t remember the last time I saw United score from a set piece. Great delivery by Cristian Eriksen.
United scored two more in the second half. Frankly a very one sided contest. Second one from Rashford header from Luke Shaw and a third one from Ronaldo. Big relief for the 🐐
Donny van de Beek made his return after injury and got some minutes to get going in a busy schedule ahead. Harry Maguire also featured. Solid performance. Still don’t like him. I just want Varane to stay fit for the world cup. I wouldn’t mind seeing France getting knocked out in the first round this time.

Garnacho’s relentless attacks showed how much it meant to him. He was playing alongside the greatest footballer ever. I would love to see this young lad’s passion spread to the rest of the team. His performance was inspiring. Keep it up lad, who knows one day you might wear that famous number 7 shirt!
Alejandro Garnacho’s game by numbers vs. Sheriff Tiraspol:
- 91% pass accuracy
- 65 touches
- 7 ground duels won
- 3 dribbles completed
- 1 key pass
I’m sure United fans would be delighted to see Garnacho getting more minutes under Erik ten Hag. After all he is a winger who is really flying at the moment. Just put him on the pitch. He might be really useful when the team desperately needs a goal.
Garnacho, 18, will only get better in the next decade and beyond.
