Manchester United travel to West London in game week 2 of EPL 2022-23 season. United needed a strong response to opening day defeat. Hosts Brentford FC confident of maintaining upward trajectory to being an established first division team.
Brentford vs MUFC Preview
There’s a lot of noise in the media about transfers as usual. United are linked with a ridiculous amount of players currently.. But the team must focus on the next match, always.
Erik ten Hag confirmed that Martial and Lindelof are out of Brentford clash due to fitness issues.
My preferred XI vs Brentford
De Gea Dalot - Varane - Maguire - Shaw
Martinez
Eriksen – Fernandes
Sancho – Ronaldo – Garnacho
Subs: VDB, AWB, Rashford, Fred, McTominay, Malacia, Garner, Elanga, Heaton.
It would be an injustice to start Rashford instead of Garnacho. One is a hugely talented lad who is just waiting to give everything on the pitch and that’s what United is all about. The other one is currently severely lacking desire to attack opponent defenders. Fans want to see confidence on the pitch, and Garnacho is up for it.
A lot is being said about Galzers and yes they should be eradicated from the club. However the players are partially responsible as well. Glazers, Murtough, Arnold these people do not play on the pitch. The whole squad, unlike Brighton defeat, need to stop being soft and show their aggression. The fans and media will always talk. The players need to ignore the noise and not let negative press affect their mentality.
Brentford vs Manchester United
Here’s Erik ten Hag’s starting XI:
🟢 BRING ON UNITED! 🟢#MUFC || #BREMUN
— Manchester United (@ManUtd) August 13, 2022
Maguire starts ahead of Varane, who is on the bench. It’s nonsensical to me cause Varane is 10 times the defender Maguire is. Rashford ahead of Garnacho is another poor choice.
United started brightly. Ronaldo tested the goalkeeper from distance with a long shot. Brentford too had a good chance from a long throw. 10 minutes in, it reminded level, or it seemed so. David de Gea made a horrible error. Another high profile mishandling of the ball – this one from Dasilva low shot. Embarrassing for David, and United.
18 mins, another disastrous defensive howler from United. Brentford go 2-0 up. Both goals United only can blame themselves. Particularly David de Gea. This is rock bottom.
United conceded 2 more by 35 mins. Third goal from yet another defensive mishap and the fourth a brilliant counterattack from Brentford. Everyone knew the team lacked cohesion, but 4-0 down in opening half vs Brentford is a scoreline even Brentford did not expected. They’re over the moon.
The players are disconnected. It’s not about the coach that much is clear. Fernandes, Rashford, Sancho, Maguire, Shaw all are disgraceful football players.
First half ended 4-0 to Brentford.
It’s actually kind of funny how bad United is. Nothing United did that was the right thing to do.
Erik ten Hag made 3 changes at half time with Malacia, Varane and McTominay coming on. Sancho was taken off after an hour into the game, who was frankly disappointing again.
Malacia showed good fight, something rest of the team lacked, probably with the exception of Ronaldo. Better from Untied in the second half comparing to first. Still, lack of penetration as Brentford comfortably sit back.
15 mins to go and United did not look they would score really. The team looked more stable than first half. Varane and Malacia brought more assurance at the back.
Could it get even worse for United? Relegation is a possiblity. One might think it’s far-fetched but so was the result against Brentford.
Until next match, then. – Syed Priom
