Erik ten Hag era begins. United vs Brighton fixture opens a new chapter. MUFC welcome Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on matchday 1 of the 2022-2023 English Premier League season.
Matchday, Reds! 🔴
So excited for ETH and the new season! We’re in for a bumpy ride for sure, and every experience is valuable. I just want to see the team give 100% on the pitch.
It’s actually a no-brainer. Ronaldo has to start. I’d say even if Martial was match fit.
ETH decided to start Ronaldo on the bench.

United vs Brighton – match summary
United kicked off the game with high intensity. Looked shaky at the back especially right side. Fernandes had the first big chance but his shot was high. United were unable to establish control within first 15 minutes. Lisandro Martinez looked very sharp, easily United’s most composed player on the pitch.
Brighton opened the scoring after 30 minutes from brilliant build up play. United punished for creating enough chances up front.
United conceded a second soon after. First half ended 0-2. Shocking half from the team.
Second half was better comparing to first half. United pulled one back but lost momentum again in the final quarter of the game.
United vs Brighton: board responsible
Erik ten Hag when asked if Man United need more signings: “We could do better with the players we had.”
Erik ten Hag was let down by the team, especially in the midfield. Bruno Fernandes was more of a disruptor than creator. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford look out of their depth. Luke Shaw lethargic as usual. McFred once again showed they are squad players at best.
Debutants Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen had a good game individually. Diogo Dalot and Harry Maguire played fairly well, but unconvincing at times.
While players have room for improvements, the root cause is not lack of ability of players. Rather the defeat comes down to the inept board. Manchester United had their worst league campaign in the previous season. The owners and board have failed to get reinforcements in time. Richard Arnold, John Murtough and the Glazers are responsible for this result.
It’s a long season ahead. Erik ten Hag would be very disappointed but in fact he would easily win this game had he got his main targets. The supporters have a role to play to eliminate the root problem – the failed ownership of filthy Glazers.
