Man United visited Molineux in game week 3 of 2021-22 EPL campaign. It was an exciting, challenging and unfortunately controversial encounter against Wolves.
United needed to bounce back from their disappointing 1-1 draw against Southampton in the preceding week. Wolves on the other hand are trying to secure first points from the campaign, after back to back defeats in the opening two games.
United won the match 1-0, thanks to Mason Greenwood winner. With 28 games unbeaten away from home, United set a new record in English football history. It also marked Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s 100th match in charge of United.
New faces, familiar faces and an unimpressive first half

As always, it’s great to see Sir Alex! ❤️

United were defensively solid in the first half but team was losing the battle in midfield. Wolves were definitely the more entertaining side. They created better chances. United were saved by an amazing goal line clearance by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wolves were the better side at the break. United needed better output in terms of speed, precision and accuracy.
Second Half, Controversy
United started the second half more brightly, especially on the attacking side. Ole went for possession play. Players seemed more patient comparing to first half. Wolves were fluid, attacking and interesting. Their best chance was from a corner but David De Gea pulled off an “out of the world” double save to deny Wolves the lead.
It was that sort of game where one moment would decide the whole outcome. And that was indeed the case.
Around 80 mins, outside Wolves box, Pogba went for a sliding challenge on incoming Ruben Neves. Both went for the ball. Pogba’s feet had contact with Neves, who went to the ground and stayed down. It all happened in front of referee Mike Dean.
Varane received the ball and sent it to Mason Greenwood on the right flank. Greenwood did a step-over to get the ball on his right and then let out venomous strike. Wolves keeper couldn’t keep the shot out despite making contact. Goal!!
VAR reviewed the incident and the goal was given.
Two questions here. First, was it a foul?
Paul Pogba: It was a 50-50 challenge. This is premier league. Every week we see challenge like this.
Ruben Neves: Everyone saw my leg. I touched the ball and Pogba touched my leg. It was a foul.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær: When the decision goes against you, you moan for some time and then you move on. When you get the decision your way you are happy and you don’t want to talk about it too much!
It should be noted that United had a decision going against them in the preceding match against Southampton. A foul on Bruno Fernandes was not given, which led to Southampton scoring their only goal. It could be that previous week’s wrong decision had an influence in Wolves game. Having any influence from another game is completely wrong.
Second question: Wolves players were furious why play wasn’t stopped. Were United wrong to keep playing after Ruben Neves stayed down?
Absolutely not! United were in a great attacking position when the incident happened. The was no indication from referee to stop playing. If Wolves were in United’s position they wouldn’t stop playing either.
My takeaway is teams should keep playing unless a player has a head injury.
United held onto the lead for the remaining of the match. Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani were brought on and they played well. It was a vital 3 points, fans are surely elated with the outcome. However, this side is expected to be more clinical and quicker. The performance could be better, especially on the attacking side.
Raphaël Varane: Man of the Match
Man of the match? It just has to be Raphaël Varane. The Frenchman had an immense game. Everything he did seemed so effortless. He is just different class. Varane led the passing from the back. He is already looking like the perfect partner of Harry Maguire.
Who would have thought – Varane also bagged an assist on his debut! He absolutely did the right thing to keep playing right after Pogba’s challenge on Neves. His assist for the Greenwood winner and his excellent defensive performance make it the perfect debut for Manchester United.

Good day! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog.
Is it very difficult to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast.
I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to start.
Do you have any ideas or suggestions? Thanks
